Mark Lacava
LCSW-R

Hello, I'm Mark Lacava, a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience in therapy, coaching, and lecturing in New York and throughout the U.S. My journey began with aspirations to be an actor, but life led me to a fulfilling career in social work. I specialize in trauma-informed and integrative therapy, and I've developed a unique approach called "walking forward" therapy in Central Park.

My work extensively covers child welfare, particularly kinship foster care and adoption services, and I've been deeply involved in the non-profit sector. As a gay man, I have a special connection to LGBTQ+ issues, combining personal experiences with professional expertise.

My certifications include programs from Columbia University, Ackerman Institute for the Family, and Rutgers University, as well as specialized training in sex-couples therapy, trauma-focused therapy, neurobiology of trauma, and support for LGBTQ+ families and youth. My approach is relational and integrative, focusing on building trust and understanding and facilitating long-term healing and change.

This is who I am and how I approach therapy. If any of this resonates with you, please call so we can talk.
